HARVEST
HARVEST

Harvest is a hand lettered piece that I illustrated for a class at the Art Institute of Austin. The assignment was to create a word or phrase that describes something about the student who was making it. I chose the word Harvest because I believe in doing my best with everything I do and when I have completed whatever it is, I will have something in return that equals the hard work. I wanted to draw foliage on the word Harvest that corresponded with the foliage that I see during the harvest season. The ornate foliage also adds a weight to the letters showing the cultivation of growth and that there is a harvest to be collected. In this work, I used 19"x24" bristol paper, mechanical pencil, sketching pencils ranging from 4H to 6B in lead grade, then I used a workable fixative by Krylon. I knew I wanted to add a lot of detail to the word. For this reason, I chose to illustrate it on a larger scale. Something that I took away from this piece is, always keep your pencils sharp, get yourself a good eraser and think beforehand how you want the elements to interact with the letters.

HEAVEN & EARTH
HEAVEN
AND
EARTH

Inspired by my husband's audiobook of Bill Creasey's teaching of Genesis, I decided to complete a rendering of Heaven and Earth as versed in the first chapter of the Bible.

KING
KING

The King typography was designed with a mind-set of luxuriousness, lavish, and lush qualities that of the royal family.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

Any success, skill or ability that I have I know and believe that my God has given to me and I should use it for him.

1 Corinthians 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

BASKERVILLE ITALIC AMPERSAND

One of my favorite ampersands belongs to the Baskerville family. Baskerville italic to be exact. To pay homage to one of the ampersands that is most pleasing to my eye, I decided to add my little touches. I also tried to hold back on the flourishes so I would not lose the tieback to the original.

FRENCH TOAST

Designing a breakfast food type. Trying to keep things French, as well as, adding in some country charm.

Bring May Flowers

In the wake of springtime, a little rhyme comes to mind. So to recognize this beautiful season, I decided to design a hand lettered piece and place it on a purple flower that is about to show its full bloom.
